Visiting Siem Reap and the Angkor temples is a must do if you travel to Cambodia. Staying in Siem Reap is cheap and you will find very good hotels for very reasonable prices.
Siem Reap is a small city with many interesting places to visit, although its main attraction is Angkor Wat. The ideal is to stay a minimum of 4 nights. It is a fairly hot city so it is advisable to choose a hotel with a swimming pool and that it is centrally located so that you can walk to the center or to supermarkets, restaurants...
In this post I tell you the best areas and hotels to stay in Siem Reap.
WHERE TO STAY IN SIEM REAP: BEST AREAS AND HOTELS
In Siem Reap there are more hotels than in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. With what you will have many accommodation options and all budgets. You can find rooms in simple 3-star hotels for 15 or 20 euros per night or stay in more luxurious 5-star hotels for 50-60 euros per night with breakfast included. (approx. prices per double room).
Our accommodation in Siem Reap:
In our case, we were traveling as a family with 2 small children and we wanted spacious accommodation with a pool. We found the 5-star Koulen hotel in the French quarter for 100 euros a night with breakfast, in a suite room that had 2 huge double bedrooms with a full bathroom each, a huge room with a TV, a kitchenette and a dining table + a balcony enormous that went through both bedrooms and the living room. In addition, to have beautiful views of the pool. The hotel was quiet, the staff very friendly and it also had 24-hour security.
It has a saltwater pool, a garden bar, breakfast and lunch service, gym and massage service in the rooms.
Staying in the Old French Quarter, the best area to stay in Siem Reap
As I mentioned in the previous point, our accommodation option was in the French quarter of Siem Reap. It is the most beautiful area of the city where buildings from the colonial period are still preserved today. In addition, it is the area where high officials, ambassadors and even the king of Cambodia sleep in the French quarter. Therefore, there is usually a lot of security and surveillance 24 hours a day.
It is a very quiet neighborhood just 15 minutes walk from Pub Street, one of the areas with the most atmosphere to walk and eat something in the afternoon/evening. In tuk tuk you will arrive in nothing for about 2 American dollars.
In this area you can find good hotels for around 50-60 euros per night in a double room with breakfast and family rooms for 4, as was our case, for around 100 euros per night with breakfast.
Some great accommodation options in Siem Reap's French Quarter:
Staying in and around Pub Street
Pub Street is the area with the most options for restaurants, shops and places to have a drink in Siem Reap. In addition, it is where the night market, several massage centers, etc. are located.
It is a noisier area, although you can find accommodation at a better price than the French quarter.
A double room with breakfast in a good 4 or 5 star hotel is between 30 and 50 euros per night.
Some great accommodation options in and around Pub Street:
Staying near Wat Bo, a popular and cheap area to sleep in Siem Reap
The Siem Reap River separates Wat Bo from the Old French Quarter and the Pub Street area. It is a central area and you can walk to many places of interest in the city. In addition, several of the ancient temples are located in this area.
Being across the river, it is the cheapest area. Great 4-star hotels can cost you around 20-25 euros per night in a double room.
Some great accommodation options in the Wat Bo area:
Riversoul Boutique 4 * It was one of our favorites when we were looking for accommodation, and although in the end we decided on another type of accommodation, it is worth visiting their website and seeing how nice the hotel is and its prices.
Treeline Urban Resort 5 * A more luxurious option where to stay in the Wat Bo area.
Staying at Mane Family Vacation 5 stars
When we were looking for accommodation in Siem Reap we fell in love with this accommodation. It's amazing and it's a very authentic place. It is located on the outskirts of the city, in a wooded area and surrounded by jungle. They are independent luxury cabins with common buildings, swimming pool, huge garden, swimming pool, their own lake and horse area. They have activities like yoga, spa center etc… We had decided to stay here but when we already had square dates we couldn't stay the 5 nights we spent in Siem Reap. They only had availability for 1 night and since we were already short on time, we finally decided on another accommodation.
It is a great place and I invite you if you are looking for a different accommodation and want to disconnect, visit the website to see their photographs, what they offer, prices and availability.
