Helsinki is a city that can be visited in one day. Although it is advisable to stay one night. It is a beautiful city that falls in love as soon as you set foot on it, its cobbled streets in the historic center, flanked by buildings in pastel shades, its port, the market... really, there is no place I don't like in Helsinki. Here are 30 essential things to see in Helsinki so you don't miss a thing.
In this post I tell you about the best areas to stay in Helsinki and I add some great accommodation options.
WHERE TO STAY IN HELSINKI: BEST AREAS AND HOTELS
The historic center, the most comfortable area to stay in Helsinki
As I mentioned at the beginning of the post, Helsinki is an expensive city, and you will notice it a lot in the accommodation. As it is a small city, and you can visit it in one day/one night, if you are staying for a short time, I recommend the historic center. Thus, you can walk throughout the city.
In addition, you will be close to the port to catch the ferry to Suomenlinna and the port to catch a ferry and visit the islands of Helsinki.

Kamppi, one of the quiet and beautiful areas to stay in Helsinki
To the west of central Helsinki you will find Kamppi, one of the most interesting areas of the city. It is a neighborhood that is fashionable, with a large number of shops, restaurants and bars. In Kamppi you can visit the famous chapel of silence, the Church on the Rock and a wide variety of museums. It is an area relatively close to the center, you can walk or take the tram.
Some great accommodation options in Kamppi:
Our lodging option was the hotel Scandic Helsinki Hub 4*, new, nordic style, central, in the Kamppi neighborhood and with a reasonable price for being Helsinki. You can see availability and prices in the hotel Scandic Helsinki Hub 4*.
Kallio, the cheapest area to stay in Helsinki
Staying in Helsinki is expensive and if you have a tighter budget, Kallio is the best option.
Kallio is located northeast of the city and has undergone a very big change in the last 20 years. Historically it has been a working-class neighborhood, without much tourist attraction. But the arrival of students has revitalized it and made it yet another attraction to visit in Helsinki.
The hotel offer is not very large in Kallio, but there are four-star hotels that are much cheaper than in the center. It is located about 15 minutes walk from the center.
