Although the Downtown area looks decadent, you will find large hotels and a wide range of hotels. In addition, it is a fairly safe area of the city.

WHERE TO STAY NEAR CAIRO
Another interesting alternative where to stay in Cairo is to do it in the outskirts. My favorite is near the Giza pyramids, where many accommodations offer incredible views of the pyramids from their rooms. You will be close to this place of interest, essential to see in Cairo, but located in the center of the city. If you are traveling light, an alternative is to spend one night in the suburbs and two more nights in the center of the city.

One of the coolest experiences is getting up at dawn and seeing the pyramids of Giza from your bedroom window. Many accommodations and of different categories offer the possibility of seeing this wonder.
From the center of the city of Cairo to the pyramids of Giza it is only 18 km. However, the traffic in the city is chaotic and it can take a little over an hour to get from Downtown to the pyramids.
If you don't mind changing your accommodation frequently, my recommendation is that you divide your days in the city in different accommodations. You stay one night in Giza, near the pyramids, and the rest of your stay in Cairo, you stay near the Downtown.
