One Pillar Pagoda, Hanoi

Just 1.5 km from Hanoi's Old Quater, we find one of the most essential Buddhist temples to see in the city; The One Pillar Pagoda (Chùa Một Cột).

ONE PILLAR PAGODA, HANOI

It can be called One Pillar Pagoda, One Pillar Pagoda or One Column Pagoda…

You will find this temple in the Ba Đình district of Hanoi, near the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum.

This small Temple of the eleventh century whose origin is in the Ly dynasty, in honor of the Buddha for the birth of his son. Its structure is inspired by the lotus flower. It is unique and you will not find anything similar in any other country, hence it is essential to know this temple price.

Inside the Unique Pillar pagoda there are stone steps. The pagoda is about 4 meters high and 2 meters wide.

It is located in the middle of an artificial lake and green gardens around it, trees that under their shade are benches to be able to observe the Pagoda del Pilar and take some photographs.

Inside the One Pillar Pagoda there is an altar that is made to honor Buddha, where according to legend it says that he gives couples abundant children if an offering is made.

According to legend...

According to legend, couples who wish to have many children must go to this pagoda and make an offering. Newlywed women should pay their respects to the Buddha with incense and fruit offerings, so that they are blessed with fertility for their marriage. It is a Vietnamese legend, but if you find yourself in the same situation, wishing to have children… it is worth giving your offering to Buddha.

History of the One Pillar Pagoda

The story goes that the One Pillar Pagoda was built in the 11th century by Emperor Lý Thái Tông, after he had a son with a commoner woman. Lý during his youth dreamed that the Buddhist mother goddess Avalokiteshvara, who rested on a lotus flower, gave him her son.

For this reason, it was requested that it be built in this way and being the only temple of this style in the world.

How to get to One Pillar Pagoda

You can get there on foot, everything is relatively close in Hanoi and it is the most recommended option so you do not miss anything.

You can also arrive by taxi. There are several taxi options, I recommend the grabcar. They are the cheapest and before entering the taxi make sure that they are going to put the meter on you, (there is always one ready).
