IS IT SAFE TO VISIT QUEENS, NEW YORK

It is a common question that I am asked a lot when asked about the general security of New York and especially the districts of Queens and the Bronx.

Queens has also been gaining a bit of a bad reputation years ago, nothing like the Bronx, but there was some insecurity. Nowadays, although in New York, especially in some parts of the Bronx, it is not recommended to go, in general all of New York City is safe and you have to take the same precautions that you would have in cities like Barcelona or Paris. And the same applies to the district of Queens. You should keep in mind that the district is very large. Personally I have never had any incidents, nor have I had a feeling of insecurity, but I don't know the entire district of Queens either. As in any trip, be forewarned, follow your instinct a bit and enjoy the trip :)

In this post I will tell you about the most essential places to visit and that you can visit either on your own or with an organized tour.

HOW TO VISIT QUEENS, NEW YORK

Well, both ways. If it is your first time in New York and you are not staying in Queens, the best way, and I also recommend it, is to do it with the New York contrasts tour.

1. Tour of contrasts in New York

This excursion of 4 hours approx. It is the most complete excursion you can do in New York, taking a tour of Harlem (Manhattan), Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx. Don't you speak English or do you know half of it? no problem!! the tour is in spanish!! The tour costs about 44 euros/person, very cheap if we take into account the cost of New York.

2. Unisphere

It is what attracts the most attention in Queens. Unishere is a metallic structure that represents the planet Earth. It is located in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. Come and meet her and enjoy a walk in the park.

3. Flushing Meadows-Corona Park

It is the second largest public park in New York City, it was created to host the 1939/1940 New York World's Fair and the 1964 New York World's Fair took place there. It is a good option if you need to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, have a picnic or go for a walk either walking or cycling.

4. Queens museum

This museum features modern and contemporary works. It is shown in changing exhibitions, films, family workshops, lectures and performances.

5. MoMA PS1

MoMA PS1 is an affiliate of MoMA and is one of the largest institutions dedicated exclusively to contemporary art in the United States. It is located in the Long Island City neighborhood, in the borough of Queens. In addition to the exhibitions carried out regularly, the museum organizes the series of National and International Projects, the summer series of musical events, programs for young people... You can also access for free. It is one of the options for free museums in New York, to know a little more about the subject, do not miss the post on free museums in New York.

6. Queens Zoo

In New York you will find several Zoos, in the Bronx, in Brooklyn and of course Queens also has its own. Although I personally prefer the Brooklyn zoo, the one in Queens is also very cool and is a good option to spend the day relaxing walking through the park, especially if you go with children.

7. Other outstanding museums

In Queens you can find an infinite number of museums, the one I recommend is the MoMa PS1 and the Queens museum, but if you are a lover of museums and have time to visit more, the most outstanding following the two previous names are: Louis armstrong museum, Queens Country farm museum, museum of the moving image, New York hall of Science and the Noguchi museum.

8. Botanical Garden

With 39 acres, this botanical garden has an infinity of varieties of both plants, shrubs and trees, among its gardens it has some dedicated exclusively to the native plants of New York City that are maintained thanks to the parks and botanical gardens.

9. Hunter's Point South Park: An essential stop in Queens

This park has a spectacular viewpoint of Manhattan. It is a great place not only to come for a walk and spend a quiet morning or afternoon, but from here you can take spectacular pictures.

10. Fort Tilden beach

If you want to add a day at the beach to your trip to New York, this beach in Queens is a great option. It is a beach with fine white sand, and it is a very quiet beach, even in summer. If your intention is to add a beach to your trip, read the post on the beaches of New York, so that you have more information about which beaches to visit.

WHERE TO STAY IN QUEENS, NEW YORK

Queens is a good option to stay, because you will find better prices than in Manhattan. Although if we compare quality and price you can find similar hotels in Brooklyn, a district that I recommend, since apart from being very well connected, it has many things to see.
