HOW TO GO TO PENANG FROM KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA
By plane, the fastest option to go to Penang from Kuala Lumpur
Penang has an airport with connections to the main airports in Malaysia and some international destinations such as Bangkok, Singapore, Vietnam or Indonesia.
The airport is about an hour from Georgetown, and you can take the bus, a taxi or hire a previous transfer service.
If you want to get around the island by rental car, you can already take the car from the airport.
By bus, the cheapest option to go to Penang from Kuala Lumpur
Penang is an island that is connected to the mainland by a bridge. Most buses arrive at Komtar Station in the heart of the city, Sungai Nibong Bus Station (15 km from Georgetown) or Butterworth Bus Station on the mainland.
From Kuala Lumpur, the cost is approximately 40 RM, it arrived precisely at Butterworth. The bus station is right next to the pier from where the ferry leaves that crosses you to the Georgetown maritime station, located in the center of the city, in about 15 minutes for about 1.30 RM.
This option is much cheaper than arriving by plane, but it will take about 6 hours. You can see schedules and prices of buses in Malaysia from here.
To get around Asia I always search and book my trips with 12 Go Asia. It is a transport search engine, and offers you all the options, prices and schedules of the destination you are looking for. It is a safe application and in your language. You can see more info and book your journey from here.
HOW TO GET AROUND PENANG, MALAYSIA
The best way to get to know the city of Georgetown is by walking through it. There you will not need transport, although if you need it there are taxis and tuktuks. If you prefer not to walk, even though the distances are very short, you can also do it by bike.
To visit places outside the city, you can do it by renting a motorcycle, a car, by taxi or by public bus. Although the public bus does not reach many places, they do have regular schedules for various places on the island.
The island has a circular road bordering the coast, keep in mind that going around the entire island is less than two hours by car. Despite being one of the largest islands in Malaysia, it is tiny.
